The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has sanctioned the selection of Anthony Placid, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, to serve as the new Force Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Police Force.
This appointment was revealed in a statement issued on Sunday by Benjamin Hundeyin, who is the outgoing spokesperson, from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The statement outlined that Placid brings a wealth of experience in various areas, including administration, operations, intelligence, training, and international peacekeeping.
Born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, located in Akwa Ibom State, Placid originates from Mbiokporo Nsit in the Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state.
He possesses a Bachelor of Science in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, in addition to a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy acquired from the University of Jos.
Additionally, he has pursued a law degree at the National Open University of Nigeria, where he is working towards a Bachelor of Laws.
Placid commenced his career in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent at the Police Academy in Kano in 1996 and was officially commissioned in August 1998.
Throughout his career, he has attended numerous professional and international training sessions, including the United Nations Peace Operations Specialized Training (POST), where he received certifications in Police Studies, Military Studies, Gender Awareness, International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, and Civilian Protection, along with completing a Senior Leadership and Peacebuilding course at UNITAR in Kenya.
His service record includes holding pivotal positions both domestically and abroad. These roles have encompassed Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Adamawa State, PPRO at the Police Staff College in Jos, Chief of Training for the African Union Mission in Sudan, and Head of Training and Development for the United Nations Mission in Darfur.
Moreover, he has served as a Divisional Police Officer in locations such as Federal Housing Calabar, Bakassi, Uruan, and Gembu, as well as acting as Officer-in-Charge for the Anti-Robbery Unit in Kaduna State. His credentials also include being an African Union Election Security Advisor and serving as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Akwa Ibom and Kogi States, in addition to leading the Intelligence Department in Abia State and managing Administration and Finance at Zone 3 Headquarters in Yola.
Placid is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and has taken on the role of a Commonwealth Human Rights Trainer. Furthermore, he is affiliated with the International Committee of the Red Cross as a trainer in International Humanitarian Law.
He is an alumnus of the Senior Executive Course 47 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, having been inducted as a member of the National Institute (mni) on December 13, 2025, prior to his reassignment to Cross River State.
