APC Leader Urges Tinubu to Address Power Supply and Fuel Cost Issues

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently tackle the escalating problems of electricity supply and increasing fuel prices nationwide.

In a discussion with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye, who is a former lawmaker, highlighted the continuing struggles with power outages as a significant hardship for Nigerians, which presents a considerable hurdle to the ongoing reforms in the power sector.

He expressed dismay that despite multiple promises and interventions from authorities, the power situation has worsened, impacting households and businesses across the country.

According to him, the challenges have become even more pressing with the recent heatwave, which has left many families unable to access essential electric cooling facilities.

Oyintiloye pointed out that the unreliable electricity supply is negatively affecting small businesses, industrial firms, and homes, where many are receiving less than three hours of power daily.

"It is a dire situation throughout Nigeria, characterized by frequent and worsening power outages," he asserted. "Despite various reforms and assurances, the national grid continues to collapse."

He attributed the ongoing crisis to a combination of factors, including gas supply issues, inadequate transmission systems, and long-standing underinvestment in the electricity sector.

The APC leader urged the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to take immediate actions to resolve the issues and stabilize the national grid.

Additionally, he requested that the President establish an inquiry panel to examine the recurring failures of the national grid and ascertain if they stem from systemic flaws or sabotage.

Oyintiloye warned that the deteriorating electricity situation has already led to peaceful protests in certain regions of the country, and continued inaction could heighten tensions.

"This issue must be urgently addressed before it escalates into a national embarrassment," he said, stressing that Nigerians deserve clarity on the causes of these failures.

He also highlighted that the soaring fuel costs have worsened the crisis, particularly affecting those who depend on generators for alternative power.

While recognizing the reforms being implemented by the Tinubu administration, Oyintiloye underlined the necessity for prompt and decisive actions to alleviate the citizens' burdens and restore trust in the power sector.
