The alleged crime took place on Onyia Uke Street in the Fegge area of Onitsha South Local Government Area after a dispute over the apprentice's late arrival home on Valentine's night.

Neighbours discovered Mr. Nwite unresponsive and subsequently moved him to a mortuary upon confirming his death. The suspect also allegedly attacked Mrs. Ogechukwu Nwite, the deceased's wife who manages their business. She was reportedly rescued by neighbours and is currently undergoing medical treatment for her injuries.

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the suspect, Chiemerie Anieke, and stated that the suspected murder weapon, a pestle, has been recovered. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, indicated in a statement that initial findings suggest the apprentice was upset by the way his master reprimanded him for alleged misconduct.

Ikenga further detailed that the master had confronted the apprentice about issues including alleged misappropriation of shop funds, staying out late, and substance abuse. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a thorough investigation and potential prosecution.

The police have pledged to provide further updates as the investigation unfolds.
