A troubling incident has emerged from a tailoring apprenticeship, where an apprentice has taken to social media to share her experience, prompting a wave of discussions online.
The scenario unfolded when a married apprentice reported late to work, leading their employer to require her to kneel as a form of punishment. The reporting apprentice intervened, questioning the appropriateness of such an action towards a married woman, but tensions escalated quickly.
The employer allegedly slapped the apprentice who questioned him and told her not to return to the shop, accusing her of showing disrespect.
In the aftermath, she sought a reimbursement of ₦160,000, the amount she had initially paid for six months of training, although she had only attended for roughly three weeks.
Despite her request, she mentioned that those in her circle were advising her to apologize rather than pursue a refund, suggesting that such treatment is commonplace within the apprenticeship framework.
