Gunmen invaded the Aqua Triton Company situated in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, Oyo State, claiming the life of a police officer while abducting a Chinese national during the attack.

According to police statements, the assailants executed a commando-style assault on the facility on Friday, January 16, confronting security personnel at the site.

During the assault, a police officer was killed while heroically trying to fend off the attackers, although some attackers are reported to have sustained injuries in the ensuing gunfight.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident to PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday, stating that the assailants escaped with the Chinese national, identified by authorities as a key officer of the firm.

Ayanlade reported that in response to the attack, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Femi Haruna, has ordered a quick reaction, instructing the Assistant Commissioner of Police responsible for Operations to mobilize the Anti-Kidnapping Squad along with other tactical units to the location.

"A combing operation is currently underway, and a comprehensive investigation has commenced aimed at rescuing the victim safely and bringing the offenders to justice," Mr. Ayanlade indicated.

He also stressed that the police are working diligently to apprehend those responsible for the crime.

“The Commissioner of Police has emphasized that all necessary measures must be taken to ensure the secure return of the kidnapped Chinese expatriate,” he stated.

Increasing Security Concerns

In recent months, Oyo State has witnessed a surge in security issues, particularly with armed gangs targeting rural and isolated regions.

Earlier this month, five forest guards were killed in an incident at the Old Oyo National Park office located in Oloka Village, Oriire Local Government Area.

Governor Seyi Makinde referred to the killings as a tragic loss, urging security forces to escalate their efforts in capturing those behind such acts while encouraging residents of border communities to assist law enforcement.

Following an on-site evaluation of the Oloka Village attack, Governor Makinde promised that those responsible would face the full extent of the law from the state's security framework.

He proclaimed that the government would guarantee that criminal elements operating in the vicinity "feel the impact of our reinforced security from this point forward."
