Actress Akinyanju "Ashabi Simple" Omobolarinde has revealed details of her tumultuous relationship with controversial musician Habeeb "Portable" Okikiola.
In a recent appearance on Oyinmomo TV posted on YouTube, she claimed that contrary to public perception, Portable had indeed promised her marriage.
Ashabi Simple, who is the mother of two of Portable's children, stated that amid rising tensions between them, she received alarming messages suggesting Portable had been intimate with someone who may have had HIV abroad. "Those messages frightened me, prompting me to get tested at the hospital, which is when I discovered I was pregnant for the second time," she revealed.
Her comments come in the context of an ongoing dispute with Portable that recently led to his arrest and subsequent legal proceedings concerning alleged assaults at his bar on January 1, 2026.
The actress distanced herself from Portable’s court troubles, asserting that he exploited her when she was younger. She emphasized, "Portable did not marry me; he manipulated me. He viewed me as a child, and I was naive. I can't be in a relationship without the promise of marriage."
Describing her complex feelings, she expressed: "I had planned to leave him, but my love for him kept me bound. I experienced a drastic emotional reaction during our conflicts. I took medical tests, including HIV checks, due to fears stemming from the messages I received. If our disputes had not garnered public attention, we might not have been at odds. But I care little for public opinion."
When asked about the prospect of a future with Portable, she stated, "If he proposed today, I would not respond affirmatively or negatively; I do not know what the future holds. At this moment, we are not on speaking terms. I've blocked him to achieve some tranquility, not out of desire for conflict. I'm simply trying to understand life without him."
Their relationship has seen a rollercoaster of emotions since December 2023, following an interview on "Talk To B" hosted by actress Biola Adebayo, where Ashabi claimed to be Portable's only wife. She argued that he provided for her and the children while maintaining a partner role when they were together.
In responding to Ashabi Simple's claims, Portable criticized her assertions, urging her to show respect for his legally recognized wife, Bewaji, and to avoid any attempts at rivalry. He characterized their relationship as merely one of many and cautioned her against portraying herself as his primary partner.
As of the latest updates, Portable has not publicly addressed the allegations made by Ashabi Simple in her recent interview.
