At least 20 individuals are believed to have lost their lives after a recent assault by armed terrorists on the Doma 'A' community in the Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State's Southern Senatorial District, stirring fresh fears regarding security in the region.
Bala Ado, the Chairman of the Faskari Local Government Council, shared details of the tragic event with ARISE News during a phone interview. He mentioned that numerous residents sustained various injuries during the brutality, and over 100 individuals have been displaced from their homes due to the attack.
The violent episode reportedly lasted nearly three hours, starting around noon and extending until approximately 3:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday, as the attackers overwhelmed the community.
Additionally, Ado indicated that arrangements for the burial of those who lost their lives in the attack are scheduled for Wednesday.
Faskari Local Government Area is notable for having entered into a peace accord with armed bandit groups previously, which had hoped to foster a period of calm and stability in the region.
However, the recent violence has raised significant questions about the strength and efficacy of the peace initiative, as local inhabitants continue to face persistent attacks, loss of life, and displacement.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, and investigations are still ongoing.
