At Least Nine Killed, 25 Injured in School and Residential Shooting in Canada

A devastating shooting has occurred in Tumbler Ridge, a rural community in British Columbia, Canada, where at least nine individuals have lost their lives and 25 have sustained injuries. The incident unfolded at a high school and a nearby residential property.

Authorities reported that, upon their arrival around 1:20 p.m. local time on Tuesday, six individuals were found deceased, along with numerous injured individuals at the scene of the shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.

One additional victim succumbed to their injuries while being taken to the hospital, as stated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Subsequently, two more deceased individuals were discovered at a residence that is believed to be linked to the events of the day.

According to police reports, the suspected shooter was found dead at the school, believed to have inflicted the fatal injury themselves.

Emergency alerts were sent to residents, describing the shooter as a woman with brown hair, dressed in a specific manner, as per information from CBC News, a CNN affiliate.

Among those injured, two individuals were airlifted to a medical facility with serious and potentially life-threatening conditions, while approximately 25 others, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries, are receiving treatment at a local hospital.

The Tumbler Ridge Secondary School has a student population of 175, spanning Grades 7 to 12, according to provincial resources.

Superintendent Ken Floyd, the North District commander, announced in a press briefing that authorities have not yet established a motive for this shooting.

"At this moment, we cannot explain what may have prompted this tragic event," Floyd remarked during the briefing.

He continued, "Determining the reasons behind this incident may prove challenging, but our goal is to understand what transpired."

It remains undetermined how many victims were children or their potential connections to the alleged shooter, Floyd emphasized.

Although the police have identified the shooter, details are being withheld to maintain privacy, and it is unclear if the shooter was a minor.
