In yet another surge of violence, Iran has executed missile and drone strikes on the United Arab Emirates (UAE), claiming the lives of six individuals and resulting in injuries to many others, including Nigerian nationals.

The UAE’s Ministry of Defence reported that its air defense systems effectively intercepted multiple ballistic missiles and drones launched from Iran, characterizing this as a significant intensification of the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Earlier reports indicated that on Saturday, March 14, 2026, the Emirati defense forces engaged with nine ballistic missiles and 33 drones associated with the latest strike.

The ministry revealed in its statements that the aggression tragically resulted in six deaths and left a total of 141 people injured, with many being foreign workers residing in the Gulf region.

“The UAE air defense systems on March 14 intercepted nine ballistic missiles and 33 UAVs launched from Iran,” affirmed the ministry’s statement.

The ministry also outlined that since the emergence of this ongoing Iranian offensive, their air defense units have neutralized a cumulative total of 294 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and 1,600 drones originating from Iran.

The fatalities included both Emirati citizens and foreign nationals from countries such as Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh. While not disclosing the precise locations of the casualties, the ministry acknowledged that the injured included residents from various nations, prominently featuring Nigeria.

Additionally, nationals from Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, and other nations were reported among the affected individuals.

These nations include Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and more, indicating the broad impact of the conflict’s ramifications.

Despite denunciations from adjacent countries, Iranian missile and drone assaults continue to menace various areas within the Gulf region. These attacks are purportedly retaliatory actions against military engagements undertaken by the United States and Israel targeting Iranian positions.

On Friday into Saturday, Iranian forces struck several Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, with some assaults resulting in infrastructural harm.

In light of the escalating security concerns, Nigerians presently stranded across various Gulf nations have urged the Nigerian Federal Government to arrange repatriation flights should the situation worsen.
