On Sunday evening, gunmen launched an assault on Dogon Ruwa community situated in the Bashar district of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, leading to the death of one individual and the kidnapping of an Imam, his Muazzin (prayer caller), alongside six additional persons.
This area has been a focal point for incidents related to banditry and kidnappings recently.
Local witnesses indicated that the victims were working on the outskirts of the community, producing charcoal for commercial sale at the time of the attack.
Shapi’i Sambo, a local youth leader, confirmed the attack and conveyed that it has incited considerable fear among the residents.
Sambo recounted that, “The victims were processing charcoal when gunmen unexpectedly invaded the area. An Imam of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Malam Abdulrashid Baduku, and his Muezzin were counted among the abducted.”
“After the assault, local inhabitants attempted to pursue the attackers but were unable to catch up with them due to the darkness. The attack has instilled fear in the community,” he added.
In response to the incident, security forces have been stationed in the area, with additional units deployed to enhance safety protocols, while locals were urged to remain composed.
As of the time of reporting, the spokesperson for the state police, SP Alabo Alfred, had not yet provided any comment.
This is not the first incident of violence in Dogon Ruwa. On July 29, 2025, armed bandits ambushed military personnel and local vigilantes in the same vicinity, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and two vigilante members.
Similarly, just last week on Monday, gunmen attacked the neighboring Sabon Gari and Zak communities, killing five residents and a soldier.
