Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, the law office advocating for Sophia Momodu amid her child custody clash with David “Davido” Adeleke, has addressed the singer's recent public remarks aimed at one of its associates, Ebelechukwu Enedah.
According to reports from PREMIUM TIMES, the popular artist filed a petition with the Lagos State High Court in Yaba, requesting joint custody of his first daughter, Imade, born to Sophia in May 2015.
After a court session last Thursday, the 33-year-old entertainer accused Mrs. Enedah of mentioning his deceased son, Ifeanyi, during cross-examination. Ifeanyi passed away in October 2022.
Following this incident, Davido claimed he lost his composure and confronted Mrs. Enedah, alleging her conduct was both unprofessional and lacking competence.
In response, the law firm released a statement signed by its management and partners that was posted on their social media page on Monday.
The firm condemned Davido's public comments regarding Mrs. Enedah and cautioned him and his followers against further harassment.
The statement emphasized the firm's commitment to pursuing justice through lawful means while stressing that any engagement in actions that threaten or disrupt the judicial process would be dealt with according to the law.
The lawyers asserted, "If legal professionals face threats or intimidation for performing their duties, the very essence of justice is compromised. The integrity of legal advocacy must remain intact, free from fear."
Furthermore, the firm urged the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and legal practitioners globally to condemn what they termed both an "aberration" and a severe breach of legal standards.
Meanwhile, Davido announced the withdrawal of his custody application following events in the courtroom. He clarified that his intention was only to pursue joint custody, not sole custody, and noted that neither party had emerged as the victor in this dispute.
The custody issue regarding Imade arose from a history of public disagreements between the two parents. Previously, Sophia had indicated on social media that she might alter Imade's last name to Momodu, citing her role in both parental responsibilities.
In 2021, she expressed discontent that her daughter bore Davido's surname rather than hers. In retaliation, Davido claimed that Sophia turned down a N200 million property he bought in 2021 within a secure estate in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, which included leisure facilities and was intended to ensure Imade's comfort.
He also disclosed having purchased a Range Rover for both Imade and Sophia for their commuting requirements. In 2023, Imade's school reported her absence for two weeks; upon reaching out, Sophia stated that the SUV had malfunctioned and that Imade had not been attending class.
Despite Davido's ongoing attempts to provide stability and a comfortable lifestyle for their daughter, he expressed feelings of undue animosity from Sophia, leading to emotional distress on his part.
