Australia has reported that an Iranian missile strike occurred near a military airbase in the United Arab Emirates that hosts its forces.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that the incident took place close to the Al Minhad base, which accommodates over 100 Australian troops.
According to Albanese, the strike ignited a fire that affected portions of an accommodation block and a medical facility on the base; however, he assured that there were no injuries among Australian service members.
An Iranian projectile allegedly struck a road in the vicinity, but officials have not yet confirmed whether it was a missile or a drone deployment.
Albanese mentioned it is uncertain if the base was intentionally targeted, emphasizing that Australia is not engaged in warfare.
“The regime in Iran is carrying out indiscriminate assaults across the region. We are cognizant of this,” he remarked.
This incident represents the second assault on the base in recent weeks, following earlier drone strikes conducted by Iran at the onset of the ongoing conflict.
