The long-awaited collaboration between Grammy-winning artist Angélique Kidjo and rising star Ayra Starr has finally been unveiled. The track, titled 'Aye Kan (Are You Coming Back?)', captures the essence of life’s struggles and triumphs.
Angélique Kidjo took to Instagram to share insights on the creative process behind their partnership, which took place at the famous Power Station Recording Studio in New York on February 22—the day of what was dubbed the 'Blizzard of the Century.' Despite the cold temperatures outside, the atmosphere inside the studio was filled with energy. "Aye Kan was born that day; not even a storm could stop us from singing and dancing together!" she shared excitedly.
The vibrant track serves as a compelling anthem across generations, tackling the juxtaposition of living life fully versus pursuing one's ambitions. Ayra Starr showcases her unique style, seamlessly blending English and Yoruba lyrics, such as “Awon kan jaye, awon kan si ma ja waya,” which reflects the rich tapestry of life's experiences.
The song boasts production from a stellar lineup at Mavin Records, with Louddaaa on the beats and the talented Johnny Drille handling the mixing. This collaboration not only highlights the duo's musical synergy but also reinforces their influence in the music scene.
