Blessing Okoro, a prominent internet personality, has clarified statements she made regarding her health, asserting that the information about her having stage 4 cancer was due to a miscommunication. In a recent interview with content creator Egungun, Okoro addressed her health condition and the controversies surrounding her fundraising efforts.
During the interview, Okoro made statements that appeared to be inconsistent when questioned about her cancer diagnosis. When asked by Egungun if she was indeed in stage 4 or if that was merely what she was told, Blessing responded, "Maybe it's miscommunication because that was what I was told."
Previously, Okoro had shared on social media, with visible distress and shedding of hair, that she had "stage 4" cancer, later specifying in another video that it was breast cancer. However, public scrutiny intensified when Nigerians questioned how her hair was falling out if she hadn't yet begun chemotherapy, a treatment she confirmed she had not undergone.
Addressing this point, Blessing explained, "I have not started chemotherapy. I just received my biopsy result. Initially, the lump was thought to be non- cancerous, but later tests revealed it was cancerous." She added that she only discovered the lump was cancerous at the end of January this year.
Okoro also touched upon the subject of fundraising for her medical treatment. Having solicited financial assistance for her cancer treatment, donors are now reportedly requesting their money back. When Egungun inquired if she had raised over one hundred million Naira, Okoro laughed and stated, "Which kind hundred million? The money never reach hundred million." She clarified that the total donations received amounted to "thirteen million."
When questioned about whether she felt an apology was owed to Nigerians for her initial cancer claims, Blessing responded, "Apologise for what? Who did I hurt?" She further elaborated, "I think I'm not a doctor and maybe I just passed the message that a doctor gave to me. I don't know the stage I am right now because I've ran all the tests, in few days time I'll go back to my oncologist and they will be able to tell me the exact stage.”
Regarding requests to publicly share her medical results as proof of her condition, Blessing declined, stating, “I can't post my result online, it’s a personal stuff.” She concluded by emphasizing her need for certainty about her situation, saying, “I just want to be sure about what I am doing. I’m not a doctor; I’m only sharing the updates I receive from them.”
