Isaac Balami, the Founding Chancellor of Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management (IBUAM), has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the citizens of Borno State and the governor, Babagana Zulum, following the tragic loss of 23 lives due to multiple bomb blasts on Monday.
Balami extended his sympathies to those who sustained injuries in the attacks, noting that innocent citizens should not have to face such violence while going about their daily routines.
In his message, Balami also reached out to President Bola Tinubu, stating that such incidents should not deter his drive to eradicate insurgency across the nation.
He formally articulated his sentiments in a signed statement, expressing his devastation over the incident and referring to Governor Zulum as the “chief mourner.”
Balami remarked, “Given the character of Governor Zulum, whom I am well- acquainted with, it is easy to understand how profoundly impacted he must feel after losing state citizens to ruthless insurgents. I wish to console him and encourage him to remain resolute. The people of Borno, and indeed all Nigerians, recognize his dedication since he took office.”
“Governor Zulum has tirelessly collaborated with federal forces and President Tinubu to combat insurgency in the region. For a significant period, Borno experienced relative peace. The resurgence of violence should be interpreted as a final struggle from a fading force, and I urge our esteemed governor not to be disheartened. The days of the insurgents are numbered,” Balami asserted.
Commending Zulum’s leadership, Balami stated, “Our populace is aware of your history in this fight. You often bravely visit the frontlines to assess the situation firsthand, showcasing true leadership and commitment to governance.”
He expressed optimism that ultimately, victory will be attained, and Zulum's contributions to state security will prove significant.
In his condolences to families of the blast victims, Balami emphasized unity among the people of Borno in the face of such adversities, regardless of their backgrounds. He stated, “At this challenging time, it is imperative that we stand together against these insurgents, transcending religious and tribal divides. We must maintain our unity to confront our shared adversaries, as these insurgents display no respect for any faith.”
Reflecting on Maiduguri's past, Balami reminisced about the city once standing as one of the most peaceful in Nigeria, as well as the University of Maiduguri's reputation for academic excellence.
He remained hopeful that with Governor Zulum's ongoing commitment and support for security initiatives, the state can regain its former stature. Balami also encouraged Borno citizens to assist government efforts by sharing critical information, underlining that ensuring security is a collective responsibility. “Everyone must be vigilant and actively support our security agencies with accurate intelligence,” he noted.
In conclusion, Balami condemned the attacks on civilians as cowardly acts, highlighting the extreme cruelty exhibited by the insurgents.
