Residents of Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State, were left in disbelief on Monday evening due to the loud sounds of several explosions emanating from different parts of the city.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the blasts were caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) believed to have been planted by Boko Haram insurgents.

Key locations affected by these explosions included the gates of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), the Monday Market Roundabout, and Elkanemi.

The first explosion was said to have occurred around 7pm, coinciding with the time Muslims were breaking their fast.

As of now, there is no official word on any casualties linked to these blasts, which took place just hours after an attack on a military site located on the outskirts of Maiduguri in Ajilari. During that incident, jihadists reportedly set fire to the military location and made off with a military patrol vehicle.

Despite this, the military was able to counter the assault effectively, resulting in the deaths of several attackers while others fled, nursing bullet wounds.

Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
