The Abia State Police Command has detained a butcher following an incident where he stabbed a customer in the neck with a pair of scissors amid a dispute over the cost of meat.
The altercation took place at the Orie Ugba market in Umuahia on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
A spokesperson for the police, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the event and the subsequent arrest, stating that the injured customer has been transported to a medical facility and is currently receiving treatment.
"The Abia State Police Command acknowledges the incident that transpired at Orie Ugba Market on 14/03/2026, where a butcher attacked his customer by stabbing him in the neck with scissors following an argument over meat pricing," the statement indicated.
"Officers from the Central Police Station (CPS) in Umuahia have visited the location of the incident.
"The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he is now responding to treatment.
"The suspect remains in police custody while the investigation is ongoing.
"Charges will be filed against the suspect once the investigation concludes."
