Mr. John Gabaya, the Chairman of Bwari Area Council, has submitted a proposed budget of N30.6 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the council’s legislature for endorsement.
The proposal, designated as the “Budget of Consolidating Developmental Gains and Strengthening Service Delivery for Sustainable Growth,” marks the final appropriation bill to be presented during Gabaya’s current tenure.
The budget outlines a total of N22.9 billion designated for capital expenditure and N7.6 billion earmarked for recurrent expenditure.
Gabaya stated that the primary objective of this budget is to finalize ongoing projects initiated in 2025, emphasizing that this presentation signifies the culmination of his administration’s appropriation proposals.
“This is particularly significant, as it represents the final appropriation proposal of this administration, scheduled to conclude in June 2026. It, therefore, provides an opportunity not only to outline our achievements, but to sustain ongoing projects and ensure a smooth transition for the incoming administration,” he explained.
He further elaborated that the budget reflects his administration’s commitment to enhancing service delivery across all sectors and improving the council's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
The proposal is also intended to foster greater accountability and transparency, improve the socio-economic well-being of residents, and establish a solid foundation for continued development beyond his term.
In his response, the Speaker of the Council, Mr. Dogara Ahmed, lauded the chairman for his performance. He highlighted that the administration's focus on infrastructure development has significantly spurred economic and social activities within the Bwari Area Council.
Ahmed expressed confidence that the council’s Joint Allocation, IGR, and other revenue sources would experience growth, thereby ensuring the comprehensive and successful implementation of the 2026 budget. (NAN)
