Alhaji Muhammad Angulu Loko, who is the chairmanship candidate from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the Abaji Area Council, has promised to establish a revolving drug scheme and provide complimentary antenatal care for pregnant women should he be elected.
Loko made this commitment while addressing a large gathering of women during his campaign tour in the Rafin-Daji community of Gurdi Ward on Monday.
He explained that his motivation for starting this initiative arises from the absence of essential healthcare services in rural areas, observing that residents in these areas often endure significant challenges due to inadequate medical access.
He assured his audience that his administration would work towards renovating degraded health facilities in rural regions, ensuring they are equipped with necessary medications and medical equipment to facilitate better healthcare access for patients and expectant mothers.
“It is heartbreaking to witness a pregnant woman risking a treacherous journey from her village to Abaji town in search of medical or antenatal assistance. Instead, we will revamp and supply the health centers in those communities, enabling our women to receive care conveniently,” he declared.
Loko pointed out that he had previously instituted a similar program during his first term from 2003 to 2006, and he is eager to replicate that achievement upon taking office again in 2026.
He highlighted the significance of women as a crucial voting constituency, insisting they merit top-tier healthcare facilities.
He called on the women to participate actively in the upcoming election scheduled for February 21 to fulfill their civic responsibilities.
