The Trump International Hotel & Tower located in Chicago, USA, failed a recent food safety inspection that took place in December 2025. Health officials reported multiple violations concerning sanitary conditions in the hotel's kitchen and food preparation zones.
Reports from the Chicago Department of Public Health indicate that the hotel's main kitchen, its room service operations, and the on-site restaurant, Terrace 16, did not meet safety standards during an inspection performed on December 17, 2025.
During the inspection, inspectors uncovered various sanitation and food safety problems. Notably, small insects were found in both the bar and dishwashing areas. Additionally, a dishwashing machine was identified as ineffective in properly sanitizing kitchen equipment, and wastewater from a prep-area sink was reportedly draining onto the floor.
Health officials also observed improper food storage practices. Many perishable items were stored at temperatures exceeding safe limits, and critical items, like raw shellfish, were lacking the required sell-by or serve-by date labels necessary for proper food safety tracking.
The inspection flagged further issues, including a cracked lid on an ice machine, residue accumulation in a prep cooler, and debris gathering under a sink. Owned by Donald Trump's business portfolio, the hotel subsequently underwent a follow-up inspection. It was reported that the facility passed this re-inspection the following week after rectifying the violations noted previously.
As of the time the inspection results were reported, hotel representatives had not issued any public comments addressing the findings.
