Farmers in the Abaji Area Council, located within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have expressed optimism about the ongoing work to rehabilitate the Gawu-Gasakpa road. They believe the project, initiated under the current council chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, will alleviate challenges in moving their farm products to market.

Several farmers shared with Abuja Metro on Saturday that the road, long considered a major obstacle, particularly during the rainy season, is finally receiving necessary attention.

One farmer, Suleiman Isah, stated that the completion of the roadwork is expected to lead to a substantial increase in food production and economic activity in the region.

He further elaborated that farmers, whose livelihoods are primarily dependent on agriculture, would experience considerable ease during the upcoming harvest season due to improved accessibility for transporting their crops. Saidu Ibrahim, another farmer, highlighted that the road serves as a vital link to adjacent communities in Niger State, suggesting that its enhancement would encourage more individuals to pursue farming.

Ibrahim described the road project as timely and lauded the council administration for prioritizing rural infrastructure development.

"Our needs are straightforward – good access roads to transport our crops to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities, as well as access to water. The chairman deserves commendation for this initiative," he remarked.

Abuja Metro's findings indicate that the rehabilitation of the Gawu–Gasakpa Road, which includes the construction of drainage systems on both sides, is being executed by a local contractor.
