Mavic Chijioke Okeugo, a distinguished fine art photographer, is set to unveil his solo photography exhibition titled ‘Where Light Learns Our Faces.’ The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at The African Centre located in London.
The exhibition will kick off with an exclusive invitation-only private viewing at 2:00 PM, prior to its public debut.
‘Where Light Learns Our Faces’ embodies a reflective visual experience that delves into themes of identity, presence, and the nuanced interplay between light and the human visage. Through meticulously crafted portraits, Okeugo aims to illustrate how lighting influences perception, revealing layers of emotional depth, vulnerability, and serene moments. In this collection, light transcends its role as mere photographic technique; it becomes a crucial partner, facilitating recognition and quiet interaction with the subjects.
With a focus on a deeply personal visual language, the exhibition emphasizes Black subjects, approached with deliberate attention and sensitivity, countering traditional, often extractive ways of visual engagement. Okeugo’s portraits prompt contemplation on how faces embody memory, history, and change, positioning the art of photography as a contemplative pause within a rapidly evolving visual landscape.
This solo show represents a significant milestone in Okeugo’s artistic narrative, presenting an integrated and meditative body of work that invites audiences to decelerate, examine intricately, and view portraiture as a genuine exchange rooted in presence rather than mere consumption.
