Nigeria and the People's Republic of China have reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing their relationship in various key sectors of the economy and more.

The two nations characterized their 55-year bond as a model founded on mutual respect, shared development, and people-centered progress.

This commitment was notably highlighted during the 2026 Chinese New Year Temple Fair conducted at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Abuja.

Tegbe remarked, "It is a great privilege to commemorate both the Year of the Horse and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Nigeria and China. The horse embodies strength and advancement in both our cultures, symbolizing our shared spirit of resilience."

He reaffirmed Nigeria's steadfast backing for the One-China Principle, describing it as the foundation of their bilateral cooperation and emphasized that this partnership has yielded significant benefits for ordinary Nigerians in areas such as infrastructure development, agriculture, and knowledge sharing.

Additionally, Tegbe pointed out the newly initiated National Integrated Poultry Project, a collaboration with China that carries an estimated investment of $1 billion.

Addressing journalists, he disclosed that trade between Nigeria and China reached $23 billion in 2025, illustrating the flourishing and expanding nature of their partnership.

Mr. Zhou Hongyou, China’s Chargé d'Affaires, referred to the event as a celebration of a lasting friendship spanning two continents. He stated, "Over the past 55 years, both parties have maintained mutual respect and established win-win cooperation. The relations between China and Nigeria epitomize the essence of South-South collaboration."

Zhou mentioned that both nations are currently discussing zero-tariff initiatives, an increase in student exchanges, and deeper cultural engagement, including the Chinese language program 'Ni Hao! China' that is broadcast on Radio Nigeria.

Mr. Yang Jianxing, the Counselor and Director of the China Cultural Centre, expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their ongoing support. He noted, "The friendship between our peoples is akin to one large family. Together, we will continue to flourish and advance."

The celebration included displays of martial arts, cultural exhibitions, and traditional Chinese cuisine, further emphasizing the growing people-to-people connections between Nigeria and China.
