New revelations indicate that the personal wealth of former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe may have been managed by disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to a confidential informant cited in recently disclosed documents from the United States government.
The claim is part of records attributed to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was included in files released by the Department of Justice, which surfaced in late January 2026 in a new set of disclosures related to Epstein.
These documents, dated November 27, 2017, have reignited global attention on Epstein’s alleged ties to influential political leaders across the globe, following his conviction in the U.S. for soliciting a minor.
As per the released files, Mugabe is said to have been among several prominent figures whose financial matters were managed by Epstein, alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This allegation is found in FBI records classified as “Secret,” preventing access by foreign nationals. A confidential human source reported to federal investigators in 2017: “Epstein was President Vladimir Putin’s wealth manager and offered the same services for former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.”
The information was subsequently reported by Daily Mail and People after it became public. The confidential source further alleged that Epstein built his wealth by aiding elite clients in concealing their assets from authorities.
“He generated income by charging his clients fees to hide their money offshore,” the source stated.
However, there has been no published documentary evidence directly proving that Epstein managed Mugabe’s assets within the documents that were released.
The files also reveal a network of communications and intelligence evaluations suggesting that Epstein retained connections with senior political figures long after his 2008 conviction in Florida.
Emails mentioned in the documents reference proposed meetings with Putin and conversations involving Russian officials and intermediaries.
In one email dated September 11, 2011, an associate reportedly wrote to Epstein about a planned trip to Russia.
“You told him you had an appointment with Putin on September 16,” the email noted. Other correspondences referenced in the files indicate that Epstein claimed associations with Russian intelligence and boasted about having “friends in the FSB,” which is Russia’s principal security agency.
One intelligence source described Epstein’s alleged operations in stark terms, labeling them: “The world’s largest honeytrap operation.”
Nonetheless, it is essential to mention that these assertions stem from intelligence assessments and the claims of confidential sources and do not constitute established or verified facts.
