Cross River Police Confirm Attack on Catholic Church

Authorities in Cross River have validated reports of an attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Katchuan Iruan, Boki Local Government Area. The incident, attributed to suspected arsonists, occurred early Thursday morning and led to significant damages.

The Cross River Police Command has acknowledged the occurrence of an attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Church located in Katchuan Iruan within the Boki Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Sunday Eitokpah stated that the incident, which involved suspected arsonists, transpired around 3 a.m. on Thursday.

In the attack, extensive fire damage was reported, destroying all church records stored in the sacristy. The assailants also set fire to a Lexus 350 Jeep owned by the priest and a Toyota Corolla parked in the church vicinity.

At this moment, no suspects have been apprehended regarding this case.

Eitokpah added, "Efforts are ongoing to ascertain those responsible for the unfortunate criminal act. Should any suspect be identified, the public will be informed."

He continued, "The scene has been secured, photographs have been taken, and the incident has been documented. It has been referred to Okunde Police Station for a thorough investigation."
