Social media personality Cubana Chiefpriest has hit back at those who have criticized him for backing the re-election campaign of President Bola Tinubu for 2027.
In a recent post on his Instagram account, he addressed members of the Igbo community who have expressed disappointment in him for choosing to support Tinubu, a Yoruba, rather than an Igbo candidate like Peter Obi.
Responding to the backlash, Chiefpriest posed a provocative question to his critics:
‘’If an Igbo man supporting Tinubu is viewed as a betrayal, then how should we regard a Yoruba man endorsing Obi? We must identify as Nigerians to engage meaningfully in our country. Isn’t it strange that governance is often harmonized among leaders while some expect mere business figures like us to remain antagonistic? Tinubu is evidently far ahead; it’s crucial to acknowledge the political landscape. How can we choose to fail again for the sake of tribal loyalty? Tinubu strategically aligned with Buhari, a Hausa man, for eight years before becoming president himself. He embodies the ‘EMILOKAN’ ethos that Baba keeps vocalizing. Tinubu has proven himself through service. Opting to back another candidate in this election could be akin to carelessly crossing a road without looking. It’s strategic to align with someone seasoned, so you too can benefit and plan for a brighter future.
We have fought, protested, and made sacrifices, yet the status quo remains unchanged. We’ve even resorted to prolonged sit-at-home orders without effect. It appears our best path forward is to collaborate and stabilize our circumstances. In time, results will emerge; remember, if you can’t defeat them, you must join them. Dear brothers, it is preferable to be inside the circle than outside. Reflect on this thoughtfully.’
