Former world champion boxer David Haye has once again become the subject of public disapproval following his participation in the reality television programme I'm A Celebrity South Africa. The athlete has drawn criticism for statements made during his time on the show and in recent discussions.

Earlier on the programme, Haye's conduct drew criticism from viewers and his co-stars, who described his actions as 'bullying' towards Adam Thomas and 'fat-shaming' directed at Gemma Collins. He also faced controversy for comments made about his partner, Sian Osborne, whom he described as having 'ugly duckling syndrome'. This particular remark sparked significant backlash and calls for his removal from the competition. Although he was later eliminated by his fellow contestants, Haye is slated to make an appearance in the live finale.

In a more recent interview, Haye reiterated his viewpoints. He suggested that a group of ten 'ugly chicks' speaking in the dark would possess personalities superior to those of '10 supermodels.' He further elaborated, stating, 'I’m saying my girlfriend has a personality of an ugly bird which sounds harsh when you say it, but it’s just how it is, it’s the truth and people don’t like the truth.'

When questioned about his self-identification as a feminist, Haye responded by questioning the definition of the term. He argued, 'It depends what your version of feminism is. If we’re drafted to go to war, women won’t be drafted in the UK, right? So, no, we’re not equal.'

Despite the ongoing criticism, Haye has downplayed concerns regarding his behaviour, stating, 'This has been the real David. Whether you think I’m the sexist or a bully, that’s your opinion, from a TV show that’s been edited. If they think that, then good luck to them, I don’t really care.'

His statements have continued to provoke strong reactions from both the public and his fellow programme participants. Adam Thomas had previously mentioned that the show experience had 'broken' him, although he later confirmed Haye had offered an apology. In a subsequent podcast appearance, Thomas became visibly emotional as he shared that he had sought therapy following his treatment on the show, which also involved fellow contestant Jimmy Bullard.

The controversy has kept David Haye at the centre of discussions regarding acceptable behaviour on reality television and on-screen conduct.
