December Sees Cooking Gas Price Fall to N5,360

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the average price of a 5kg cooking gas cylinder decreased from N5,425.78 in November to N5,360.43 in December 2025. This marks a significant decline both month-on-month and year-on-year.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported that the average price for a 5kg cooking gas cylinder dropped from N5,425.78 in November 2025 to N5,360.43 in December 2025.

This information was disclosed in the NBS Cooking Gas Price Watch for December, which was published on Monday in Abuja.

The decrease of approximately 1.20 percent in the average price reflects a slight easing from the previous month’s rates.

Additionally, when compared year-on-year, the price for December shows a significant decline of 25.31 percent from N7,177.27 in December 2024.

State-wise analysis revealed that Kaduna had the highest average price at N5,838.66, followed closely by Jigawa with N5,825.99 and Osun at N5,777.80. Conversely, Katsina reported the lowest average price at N4,855.80, followed by Gombe and Cross River at N4,885.64 and N4,891, respectively.

In terms of regional pricing, the South-east region recorded the highest average retail price at N5,457.92 for the 5kg cylinder, while the North-West followed closely at N5,451.16. The South-South region enjoyed the lowest average price at N5,256.27.

The report also noted a decrease in the average retail price for refilling a 12.5kg cooking gas cylinder, which fell by 0.74 percent month-on-month, from N13,538.79 in November to N13,438.90 in December. Year-on-year, this represents a 22.20 percent drop from N17,274.16 in December 2024.

Analyzing this sector further, it was noted that Abia had the highest average price for a 12.5kg cylinder at N14,489.96, with Osun and Delta following at N14,444.50 and N14,393.17, respectively. In contrast, the lowest average price for a 12.5kg cylinder was reported in Katsina at N12,139.49, with Gombe and Edo at N12,214.09 and N12,262.53 each.

For kerosene, the average retail price per litre also saw a slight decline to N2,605.26 in December 2025, a reduction of 0.13 percent from N2,608.69 in November 2025. However, compared to December 2024, this price surged by 26.69 percent from N2,056.38.

Regionally, Osun recorded the highest average price per litre of kerosene at N2,982.30, followed by Adamawa at N2,968.03 and Taraba at N2,950.55. The lowest price was observed in Kogi at N2,080, with Bauchi and FCT at prices of N2,095.09 and N2,169.35, respectively.

Overall, the NBS reported a gallon of kerosene in December 2025 saw an average price of N9,929.21, indicating a 0.51 percent increase from N9,879.05 in November 2025, while it increased year-on-year by 41.94 percent from N6,995.50 in December 2024.
