Renowned journalist Dele Momodu has officially become a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that his entry into party politics is motivated by a commitment to safeguarding Nigeria from a one-party system rather than personal desires for power.

During his ADC membership declaration in Benin City on Thursday, Momodu described this event as a significant personal and political return following many years spent away from his roots.

"I am set to officially join the African Democratic Congress. It has taken me over thirty years to rediscover my ancestral connection," Momodu remarked.

He expressed gratitude towards Senator Isa Raymond, who he considers a father figure, for his support when he first returned to his homeland, stating, "From our first encounter, he embraced me as his own child and facilitated my return home."

Momodu recounted his endeavors to establish financial stability while living in the United States, which he believes has provided him with both security and insight.

“It has taken me more than 50 years — a journey filled with rigorous effort and strategic planning — to secure my modest livelihood in the U.S.,” he explained. “Today, my connections in the U.S. are undeniable. However, here I stand reintegrating into the political scene of my state.”

He addressed rumors suggesting that his political activities involve aspirations for an elected role, clarifying that his focus extends beyond personal ambitions.

“People often inquire, ‘What do you strive for? A governorship or a Senate seat?’ The answer is no. My goal is to champion the interests of our people,” he emphasized.

Momodu characterized his acceptance of ADC membership as a pivotal decision, expressing pride at undertaking the significant task of collecting his ADC membership card, which he views as the preliminary yet crucial phase of his political journey within Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation.

He articulated his overarching political mission, cautioning against the monopolization of power by a singular party.

“My aim in politics is to unite with like-minded individuals to rescue, recover, and reset Nigeria,” Momodu declared. “It is imperative that Nigeria is liberated from a one-party system and a singular legislative body.”

In a lighter tone, he joked about how unique individuals like Baba Eke are irreplaceable, adding some humor to the serious discussion.

He also remarked on the importance of individual commitment from citizens who feel discontent with the country's current trajectory.

“This journey necessitates the full dedication of most Nigerians who refuse to be subdued in their homeland,” he asserted.

Momodu expressed appreciation for ADC leaders and supporters, highlighting Zipzon Oyebu's contributions and their inspirational qualities.

“I am deeply motivated by our leader and mentor, Zipzon Oyebu, for his wisdom, determination, and sacrifices for the progression of our nation. Thank you, Baba,” he stated.

He concluded his address by thanking attendees for their support, expressing gratitude for their willingness to come together on a working day. “Your presence here is a testament to your loyalty; I truly value it,” he affirmed.

Concluding with optimism in the leadership within his party, he stated, “I trust Zipzon Oyebu’s capacity to secure his legacy in our country.”
