Law enforcement officials in Kenya arrested a Nigerian national along with another individual during an anti-drug operation.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
As per the DCI report, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) partnered with officers from the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) to carry out an operation based on intelligence about a suspected drug trafficking network.
Acting on reliable information indicating that individuals were preparing for a drug transaction in Stock inauguration, Machakos County, the team quickly mobilized to the location.
However, upon arrival, it was discovered that the anticipated meeting had been canceled.
With fresh intelligence received from undercover sources, the operation was redirected to Ruaka in Kiambu County.
During a search at a residence in Mbuti Apartment, Ruaka, authorities found multiple items, including pellets and packages believed to contain controlled substances, digital scales, mobile devices, foreign passports, and cash in both Kenyan and Nigerian currency.
The operation led to the capture of two suspects: Okeke Ikechukwu, a Nigerian, and Alex Opondo, a Kenyan citizen.
The suspects were taken to Ruaraka and Pangani Police Stations for documentation and processing. All recovered items have been secured for forensic evaluation.
The arrested individuals will appear in court today, as investigations proceed to identify and apprehend other members of the trafficking network.
