Israel has officially signaled its support for U.S. President Donald Trump's initiative to suspend offensive operations targeting Iran for a period of two weeks. Crucially, this agreement does not encompass Lebanon, as stated by the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday.

The Israeli government indicated that its endorsement is contingent upon Tehran's immediate action to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and cease any attacks directed at the United States, Israel, and other regional allies. Israeli officials emphasized that this temporary de-escalation aligns with broader U.S. efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East and create an opening for diplomatic engagement.

Washington's announcement of a two-week pause in strikes against Iran comes as part of a wider strategy to encourage dialogue between the two nations. The Israeli administration confirmed its alignment with U.S. objectives to prevent Iran from posing threats related to nuclear capabilities, missile technology, or support for terrorism against Israel, the U.S., and neighboring Arab countries. Sources within the government noted that the U.S. has assured Israel of its commitment to advancing these shared security interests through upcoming negotiations.

Scheduled discussions between Iran and the U.S. are slated to commence this Friday, April 10th, in Islamabad, Pakistan. Two officials from the White House confirmed that Israel had agreed to the two-week ceasefire and would suspend its bombing campaign against Iran during this timeframe. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who played a role in mediating the accord, posted on X that the ceasefire agreement also involves a halt to Israeli military activities in Lebanon. Nevertheless, Israel's official statement maintains that the suspension of hostilities does not extend to Lebanese territory.

The military operations undertaken by Israel in Lebanon have resulted in severe consequences, with reports indicating at least 1,500 fatalities and the displacement of 1.2 million individuals. Lebanon became involved in the conflict after Hezbollah launched rockets towards Israel in a show of solidarity with Iran, occurring two days after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian positions. Hezbollah's action subsequently triggered a new ground and air offensive by Israel, intensifying the regional conflict.

Israeli officials have stressed that while they back the temporary suspension of strikes on Iran, military actions in Lebanon will persist as deemed necessary to counter security threats, particularly those stemming from Hezbollah's ongoing hostile activities.
