Doja Cat is embroiled in a fresh family conflict following her father, Dumisani Dlamini's, recent remarks disputing allegations that he abandoned her.
In a series of videos, Dlamini countered the narrative of being a 'deadbeat' dad, asserting that he was involved during Doja's formative years and supported the family. He claims that their relationship deteriorated as her career skyrocketed, alleging that her mother swayed her views about him.
Dlamini stated, 'after Doja’s success surged, her mother started tarnishing my name' and 'led her to believe that I had left,' a claim he firmly contests. His comments surfaced after Doja Cat released a video entitled 'Deadbeat Chronicles,' where she humorously recounted a prank she pulled on him by sending an inappropriate link instead of concert tickets to her show in South Africa.
In rebuttal, Dlamini remarked: '[Doja] acted based on her mother’s influence. She visited South Africa, had the opportunity to meet me, yet pretended otherwise… I hold myself to principles of integrity, love, and respect.'
While acknowledging her father's artistic legacy, Doja Cat has reiterated that she did not have a close childhood with him and they lack a meaningful connection.
