Dubai International Airport halted all operations temporarily due to a drone strike that occurred near the terminals on Saturday, creating panic in this key aviation hub.
Authorities from the UAE reported that air defense systems had been activated following the incident. Passengers in the airport were directed to take cover in train tunnels when the alert was issued.
Eyewitness reports indicated that an explosion was heard over the airport, accompanied by visible smoke. Residents throughout the city also heard multiple blasts.
Emirates Airlines announced that all flights to and from Dubai had been suspended until further notice. Passengers who had booked flights between February 28 and March 31 can either reschedule their flights or request refunds.
UAE authorities are currently conducting an investigation to trace the drone's origin and assess if there are any ongoing threats. Additionally, security measures across critical infrastructures in the country have been increased in response to the incident.
