Residents in Dubai, which includes a significant number of British expatriates, have been alerted about potential missile threats as tensions in the Middle East heighten.
Mobile notifications dispatched to inhabitants throughout the city encouraged them to seek immediate shelter and await further updates as the security crisis developed. These alerts came in the wake of Iran initiating one of its most aggressive rounds of missile strikes in the region.
Dubai has witnessed multiple drone interferences, with debris reportedly landing near prominent sites such as the Burj Al Arab and Palm Jumeirah, leading to fires that were subsequently contained.
One British expatriate, referred to as Martyn, shared his experience of the escalating tension in the city following the reception of numerous alerts on his phone. "We received two alerts just now, and had another two last night," he recounted. "This is a very, very tense situation. It is difficult to assess while being at the center of it. There's no way to really grasp what's happening."
Martyn expressed that the unfolding events have left many locals feeling anxious about potential missile strikes. "Being here is extremely nerve- wracking. Many believe the missiles will miss, but I think finding shelter is wise because the outcome is unpredictable," he explained.
The alerts coincide with Iran's ongoing retaliatory strikes across the Middle East, prompted by the assassination of Ali Khamenei during a military operation labeled Operation Epic Fury.
Martyn added that the continual emergency notifications have instilled fear in many residing in the city. "Honestly, it frightens me greatly. However, that’s the intended effect. You can’t simply turn off the alerts, making them quite effective," he said.
He noted that the ongoing unrest has also impacted residents throughout the United Arab Emirates, mentioning that friends in Abu Dhabi experienced similar interceptions. "A friend in Abu Dhabi got heavily affected—there were 15 intercepts recently," he mentioned. "It feels like the Iranian forces are aimlessly targeting us, causing widespread disruption."
