Kemi Busari, who serves as the editor for DUBAWA Nigeria, has been appointed as the West Africa representative on the Africa Facts Advisory Committee.
This advisory committee, a continental initiative, is responsible for setting strategic priorities and fostering collaboration among various fact-checking organizations within Africa.
The election was carried out through the Africa Facts Network, which involved contributions from 51 member organizations spanning the entire continent. This new committee comprises representatives from different African regions including Central, East, North, West, and Southern Africa.
Other committee members include Arwa Kooli representing North Africa, Eric Mugendi representing East Africa, Cris Chinaka representing Southern Africa, and Ange Kasongo from Central Africa.
Kemi's election underscores DUBAWA's rising influence in promoting fact- checking, media literacy, and the integrity of information in West Africa. Throughout his tenure, he has spearheaded numerous projects aimed at countering misinformation and enhancing verification methodologies in newsrooms.
In response to his election, Kemi expressed pride in his new role and a commitment to furthering initiatives that uphold information integrity across the continent. He emphasized that the committee will offer an essential platform to amplify DUBAWA’s unified stance against disinformation.
