The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie to the position of Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.
In a statement released on Thursday by Umar Musa Ikhilor, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), it was outlined that Mrs. Johnson-Okojie will utilize her considerable public influence, communication skills, and connections to effectively engage citizens with government policies and initiatives.
Ikhilor noted that this appointment reflects the governor's dedication to leveraging the talent, credibility, and goodwill of respected Nigerians to promote the government’s vision for a thriving and united Edo State.
The statement emphasized that as a successful actress, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Mrs. Johnson-Okojie is expected to bring her extensive experience to her new role.
“She stands out as one of Nollywood’s most distinguished talents, boasting nearly two decades of experience and over 200 films to her credit. Her remarkable contributions to the Nigerian film industry have brought her numerous accolades and nominations, including honors at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) and various other notable platforms.
“Additionally, Mrs. Johnson-Okojie is greatly respected for her philanthropic and advocacy efforts. Through her foundation, she has passionately supported causes centered on empowering women, enhancing child welfare, providing educational support, and promoting healthcare initiatives. She continues to use her platform to encourage social responsibility, civic awareness, and community development,” the document concluded.
