Edo State Police Detain Doctor for Illegal Firearm Possession

The Edo State Police Command has taken into custody a 35-year-old medical doctor, Kingsley Dele, for the unlawful possession of a restricted firearm.

The police spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, made this announcement in a statement issued on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

According to the Public Relations Officer, the arrest occurred on February 29, as officers from the Command Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad (CIRRS) acted on credible intelligence.

Ikoedem reported that a Beretta pistol was seized from the suspect during the operation, which is part of a continued effort led by Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika to tackle the distribution of illegal firearms that often incite violent crime in local communities.

"In a decisive, intelligence-driven operation that reflects our zero-tolerance policy against illegal arms proliferation, the Edo State Police Command has detained a 35-year-old individual for unlawful firearm possession," read the statement.

"On February 29, 2026, around 10:00 AM, officers from the Command Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad (CIRRS), based on actionable intelligence, arrested Dr. Kingsley Dele from Obaretin Community.

"A swift and discreet operation resulted in the recovery of a Beretta pistol from the individual.

"This arrest highlights the ongoing strategic initiative led by Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, to combat the circulation of illicit firearms, which frequently exacerbate violent activities in our neighborhoods.

"The Command considers illegal firearm possession a serious threat to public safety and will confront it with decisive measures, irrespective of the individuals' professions or statuses.

"Following the completion of the investigation, the suspect will face legal proceedings.

"Commissioner of Police CP Monday Agbonika assures citizens of the Command's commitment to being vigilant and proactive in its duties to protect the welfare of individuals and their property.

"He also encourages the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by sharing useful information promptly."
