The Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), in partnership with local hunters, successfully rescued a kidnapped student from the Ambrose Alli University, identified as Pascal.
The rescue occurred unharmed on January 25, during a ransom payment at a forest location.
Pascal, who is in his fifth year of study, was reportedly abducted on January 22, 2026, along the Ugboha-Anegbete route within the Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.
He was en route to his village to handle some family matters when he was intercepted by his kidnappers.
According to reports, the kidnappers had contacted Pascal’s family to demand a ransom of N15 million for his release.
The victim's family complied and delivered the demanded amount to a designated area in the forest, where the kidnappers intended to collect it prior to his release.
Sources indicated that while the ransom was being exchanged, the kidnappers noticed a vigilante group lying in wait, leading to their hasty flight and Pascal's subsequent rescue.
In an interview, Pascal recounted the moment he encountered his captors, revealing that he was apprehended and forced into the bush.
“At their camp, they instructed me to call my brother, informing him of my abduction, and then they demanded a ransom of N15 million,” he said.
He also noted that he was ultimately saved by the security corps.
Richard Balogun, the Deputy Corps Commander, confirmed the incident, stating that during the rescue, the kidnappers abandoned their mobile phones and made their escape.
He added that the recovered phones have since been submitted to the police for further investigation.
