Operatives from the Kogi State Police Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, local hunters, and vigilante groups, have arrested eight individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities, including those believed to be informants. The arrests occurred during a series of coordinated bush-combing operations throughout various regions of the state.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, announced this development through a statement released on Friday in Lokoja.

According to the statement, the operations involved extensive searches of identified forested and isolated areas that are suspected to be vulnerable to criminal exploitation.

Police authorities confirmed that these operations are part of a proactive and intelligence-driven security strategy, aimed at detecting, disrupting, and dismantling criminal networks throughout Kogi State.

The operations were further supported by aerial surveillance, which provided enhanced situational awareness, enabling the tracking of suspicious movements and pinpointing concealed criminal hideouts.

The police elaborated, "Bandit camps and hideouts that were identified were neutralized to prevent reutilization and disrupt the operational capabilities of these criminal elements."

The coordinated presence and significant deployment of security forces prompted many suspects to flee their hideouts, abandoning numerous locations in the process.

During these operations, eight individuals were detained at various locations for questioning regarding their suspected involvement in criminal activities.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that some of the detained individuals are believed to have been informants assisting kidnapping syndicates operating in the area.

The police statement mentioned that the suspects are currently in custody, and detailed investigations are ongoing. Legal actions will follow based on the outcomes of these investigations.

Following the operations, the areas searched have remained peaceful, with an increased and noticeable security presence aimed at reassuring residents and preventing any potential disruption of peace.

The Kogi State Police Command reiterated that joint security operations will continue across the state, as part of a comprehensive strategy to keep criminal elements unsettled until they are thoroughly eradicated.

The effectiveness of these operations reflects the strategic leadership of Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, who emphasizes intelligence-based policing, modern surveillance techniques, and robust inter-agency collaboration to achieve concrete security outcomes across the state.

In a reassuring message, the Commissioner of Police informed residents of the command's ongoing commitment to maintain control of security challenges, ensuring the protection of lives and properties.

Residents are urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activities promptly to facilitate immediate action.
