A 26-year-old man from Malawi was attacked by his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend in South Africa. The incident occurred at his residence located in an informal settlement in Redcliffe, Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday morning, March 24, 2026.

Members of the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the scene at 12:27 PM. Upon arrival, officers interviewed the victim and his girlfriend regarding the incident.

Scene of the stabbing incident involving the ex-boyfriend and the current partner

The girlfriend reported that her former boyfriend, also 26 years old, forcibly entered their home at around 1:00 AM and confronted her current partner. During this encounter, he allegedly stabbed the victim twice before fleeing the scene.

Fearing for his safety, the wounded man escaped from the house and hid in nearby bushes for several hours. The girlfriend indicated that she had tried to find him overnight but was unsuccessful in locating him. When she returned to their home the following morning, she discovered that he had returned from his hiding place.

The woman further revealed that she had previously had relationships with both men at the same time but had ended her involvement with the ex-boyfriend to pursue a relationship with the current partner. It was claimed that the ex- boyfriend had been struggling to accept their breakup, having threatened and assaulted the couple multiple times before this incident.

The injured man received treatment at the scene before being transported to a medical facility for further care.
