Employees of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, represented by the Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC), have made a call for immediate intervention on ongoing welfare issues that have been negatively affecting their motivation and efficiency.

During a press conference held in Abuja on Friday, the union's President, Mrs. Rifkatu Iortyer, made the request known.

Iortyer clarified that the purpose of the news briefing was to bring to the attention of the FCT Administration the persistent issues affecting workers in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (SDAs).

Among the issues highlighted were the failure to remit pension and National Housing Funds deductions, lack of payment for overheads, and unlawful centralization of salary processing.

"We insist that all salary desk officials within the different SDAs be permitted to handle the salary preparations of their respective departments," she stated.

Additionally, she criticized the lack of payment to officers at the Abuja Environment Protection Board and the Social Development Secretariat who are responsible for enforcing relevant laws and policies.

Other concerns mentioned included the lack of a financial limit for Permanent Secretaries (PS) and Heads of SDAs, as well as the extended tenure of certain retired directors and PS.

Iortyer demanded the prompt removal of these officers, advocating for their replacement with qualified individuals.

Further concerns brought to light included the non-payment of overdue wage awards, unpaid promotional arrears, poor working conditions, intimidation of staff, and the absence of adequate training and retention programs.

The president also expressed discontent with the widespread failures in the 2024 promotion examination, calling for its annulment.

"These matters are not new to us, but they have persisted for too long, leading to unnecessary hardship and frustration among those who have committed themselves to serving this nation," she remarked.

"We require urgent attention to these matters and will persist in voicing our concerns until they are resolved.

"Our fight extends beyond the rights of workers; it is about the future of the FCT Administration and our country," she concluded.
