Federal Government Greenlights Hiring of 350 Staff as UNILAG Prepares for 56th Convocation

This announcement was made by the vice chancellor during a press event for the university's upcoming 56th convocation.

The Federal Government has given its approval for the recruitment of 350 academic and non-teaching personnel at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to alleviate the staffing shortages significantly impacted by the ongoing migration trend popularly referred to as the 'japa' syndrome.

Professor Folasade Ogunsola, the vice chancellor, made this announcement while speaking with the media at a press briefing organized in advance of the university's 56th convocation ceremony.

She noted that the departure of numerous staff members over the past few years has put considerable pressure on the university's workforce. Professor Ogunsola indicated that a total of 16,506 students are slated to graduate during the convocation, which includes 10,584 receiving first degrees and 5,922 earning postgraduate degrees.

Among the students graduating, 709 achieved First Class honours, 4,543 secured Second Class Upper Division, and 3,910 finished with Second Class Lower Division. Additionally, 69 students were awarded Pass degrees, while 330 students received unclassified degrees.

Professor Ogunsola highlighted Chukwuzubelu Umeozo from the Faculty of Management Sciences, Department of Business Administration, as the top- performing graduate with an outstanding CGPA of 5.0.

The vice chancellor also announced that the week-long convocation festivities will commence on Friday, January 16, starting with a Jumat service at the University Central Mosque.
