The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has unveiled its Class of 2026 inductees, honouring two monumental figures from Nigerian music: the late Fela Anikulapo- Kuti and the acclaimed Sade Adu.
This significant acknowledgement follows Fela Kuti's recent Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, further solidifying his pioneering influence. The induction celebrates the global reach of Afrobeat and Sade Adu's distinctive soulful sound.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, established in 1983 and located in Cleveland, Ohio, aims to preserve the history of artists, producers, and engineers who have significantly shaped popular music. Eligibility requires artists to have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before the induction year, with selections based on musical excellence, innovation, and influence.
Sade Adu, alongside her band, will be inducted in the Performer Category, acknowledging her enduring legacy and sophisticated musical style. Fela Anikulapo-Kuti receives the Early Influence Award, a tribute to his foundational role in shaping subsequent musical genres, particularly Afrobeat.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2026, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Other notable inductees in the Class of 2026 include Oasis, Mariah Carey, Luther Vandross, Wu-Tang Clan, Phil Collins, and Lauryn Hill. The event will be broadcast on ABC and Disney+ in December 2026.
