The FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (FPED) has revealed its plans to initiate a 24-hour power supply to selected zones in Anambra State.
This initiative comes as part of the company's strategy to enhance power delivery in the region.
During FPED's annual customer engagement meeting held on Thursday in Awka, the Chief Technical Officer, Emeka Egbujor, announced these arrangements.
"Currently, we have finalized plans to supply Udoka Estate and Ngozika Estate in Awka with 10 megawatts of electricity around the clock," he stated.
Egbujor also mentioned that discussions are underway with major industries in Nnewi, including Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd, Cutis Cable Company, Tommy Noodles, and Chikason Plastics, to provide them with 24-hour electricity.
He noted that the project would be facilitated through a Compressed Natural Gas plant and is expected to be completed within six to eight months, starting from March this year.
Moreover, he assured stakeholders that there would be sufficient power supply for residents after project completion.
The Managing Director of FPED, Okechukwu Okafor, reaffirmed the company's commitment to improving electricity services for its customers.
"We aim to change the perception regarding power supply in Anambra. The future of electricity supply here looks promising. Anambra serves as the economic nucleus of the South-east, Nigeria, and indeed West Africa," he explained.
Okafor identified the recent decline in power supply as being linked to gas supply shortages affecting power plants and the inadequate funding within the electricity sector.
He reported that the energy allocation to Anambra had decreased to around 45% of normal levels, but there had been a slight recovery in generation in January 2026.
"Discussions are ongoing among the federal government and industry stakeholders to tackle the challenges currently faced in the sector," he added.
Okafor encouraged customers to apply for prepaid meters, which he stated could be acquired within three weeks post-application.
He urged consumers to report any incidents of corruption involving company staff, emphasizing their commitment to transparency and accountability.
Customers in Anambra have expressed discontent regarding erratic power supply and high estimated billing, leading to a recent protest that customers chose to suspend as FPED committed to addressing their concerns.
Obianuju Okafor, Head of Customer Service at FPED, highlighted that the event served as a platform for gathering insights from customers to improve service delivery.
