On Thursday, January 15, five individuals sustained injuries from what is suspected to be an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device along the Takalafiya–Gadar Zaima Road in the Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The event reportedly took place around 11:30 a.m. when a motorcycle, carrying five people, struck an explosive device that was likely placed by armed bandits who aim to target security operatives in the vicinity.

Zagazola Makama, a security analyst specializing in counter-insurgency efforts in the Lake Chad region, revealed this information in a post on X social media platform.

The explosive triggered a loud blast upon contact, causing the motorcycle to be destroyed and resulting in serious injuries to all five people on board.

In the aftermath, security forces cordoned off the affected roadway and advised local residents to steer clear of the area while safety assessments were conducted.

The injured parties were transported to the General Hospital in Gummi for necessary medical care.

Access along the Takalafiya–Gadar Zaima corridor remains limited as security agencies continue their surveillance and work to eliminate any further risks in the area.
