FKA Twigs has announced that she will no longer tolerate being targeted regarding her stage name, leading her to seek court intervention in a protracted disagreement with indie duo The Twigs.
The artist, born Tahliah Debrett Barnett, has filed legal papers requesting a court ruling to prevent the band from issuing cease-and-desist letters that assert trademark infringements.
This legal battle traces back to 2014, when the sister duo consisting of Laura and Linda Good lodged a trademark complaint against her. Although that complaint was later 'voluntarily' withdrawn, the matter has resurfaced after more than a decade, with new legal threats being made.
FKA Twigs contends that there is little possibility of confusion between the two acts, arguing that it is 'inconceivable that any member of the relevant consuming public could confuse Barnett’s offerings with those of Defendants or believe that the parties are affiliated or related.'
She claims that the band has been persistently pursuing her over the trademark issue and is asking the court to grant her the right to use and register the name 'FKA Twigs.'
This legal action aims to conclude what she describes as the band's ongoing efforts to 'weaponize' longstanding disputes regarding the similarity of their names.
