Jorginho, a former player for Chelsea and Arsenal, has retracted his recent criticism directed at pop artist Chappell Roan, issuing a statement to clarify the situation. The footballer described the incident, which occurred at a hotel in Sao Paulo, Brazil, as a 'misunderstanding'.

Previously, the 34-year-old Italian international had alleged on Instagram that a member of Roan's staff had confronted his wife, Catherine Harding, and their daughter Ada. The incident reportedly happened after the daughter recognised the singer.

Chappell Roan had responded to Jorginho's initial claims by expressing sadness for the mother and child involved, while also stating she was unaware of the specific incident and that it did not involve her personal security detail.

Jorginho has now confirmed that the security guard who approached his family was not employed by Roan. He stated that the matter is now resolved, confirming that the security guard involved has publicly acknowledged representing another artist at the hotel during the time of the incident.

The midfielder, who holds dual Brazilian citizenship, further explained in a new Instagram post that while the situation initially unfolded as described to them, they acted based on the information then available. He added that the security guard has confirmed he was not acting on behalf of Chappell Roan.

"Chappell Roan made a public statement, reached out private to Catherine, and our teams also spoke directly," Jorginho stated. "It became clear that she had no knowledge of what took place at breakfast and had not asked anyone to approach them. She was understanding and sympathetic to what happened to our child."

He continued, "While we still do not know what prompted him [the security guard] to approach them, and do not believe an 11-year-old could reasonably be seen as any kind of security threat, it is now clear he was not acting on behalf of Chappell."

Jorginho concluded, "It was, ultimately, a misunderstanding in that respect, and I am glad to set the record straight. It is important to me that this is clarified fairly and accurately. I regret the impact that this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine, Ada and our family. I will always stand up for my family. But I also know how to recognise when things were not quite what they seemed at first."
