Four individuals have tragically died following a collision between a commercial bus and a stationary truck in Ogun State.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Ijebu- Imushin section of the Ijebu Ode–Ore Expressway.
Preliminary reports indicate that the crash was caused by excessive speed and involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number BDJ 482 XC and a blue MAN Diesel truck owned by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, confirmed these details in a statement released on Tuesday.
She stated, "A white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BDJ482XC collided with a blue MAN Diesel truck bearing registration number RSH969XC, which is owned by Julius Berger. The incident transpired at the Ijebu-Imushin area of the Ijebu Ode–Ore Expressway."
"Regrettably, all four passengers in the bus—two male adults and two female adults—sustained life-threatening injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries or survivors were reported,” she added.
Odunsi-Oyewole noted that an initial investigation indicated that the accident was due to speeding.
She further explained that the truck was stationary on the road because the towing chain had suddenly snapped while being towed.
Consequently, the speeding Toyota Hiace bus crashed into the parked truck.
"After the collision, the driver of the towing vehicle fled the scene, abandoning the truck,” she stated.
The FRSC representative mentioned that rescue teams arrived at the site within eight minutes of receiving the emergency call.
The remains of the deceased were subsequently removed and taken to the State Hospital mortuary located in Ijebu Ode.
Odunsi-Oyewole reported that officers from the Nigeria Police Force at the Imushin Division have secured the vehicles involved in the collision and initiated further investigations.
In the wake of this disaster, Akinwunmi Fasakin, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, has urged drivers to adhere strictly to speed limits, particularly during nighttime travel, and to ensure that towing equipment is safe and reliable to prevent similar incidents.
