Frederick Leonard, a prominent Nollywood actor, has formally approached the Delta State Police Command with a petition against fellow actor Stanley "Stanley Ontop" Ajemba, citing defamation and harmful statements.
Leonard, represented by his attorney, Ogochukwu Emodi from Uche Okoro & Co., filed the petition and shared a copy on his Instagram account on Monday.
Reports indicate that in 2025, Stanley Ontop accused Leonard of mistreating a crew member and cautioned filmmakers against involving him in potential projects.
Moreover, Ontop purportedly claimed that Leonard considered himself the "most handsome" actor and suggested that he engaged in promiscuous behavior.
In his petition, Leonard affirmed that Ontop has consistently defamed his character for over two years without legitimate cause.
The document states: “It is our brief that Mr. Stanley Chibueze Ajemba has made numerous groundless claims that severely damage our client’s integrity, threatening to cause substantial financial losses.
If these disparaging narratives are not corrected or retracted, we intend to explore all available legal remedies for our client.”
Leonard urged that an immediate and thorough investigation be conducted into the allegations by the police.
Additionally, he called for Ontop to be summoned for questioning regarding violations of his basic rights, warning that he would proceed with legal actions should Ontop ignore the demands presented in the petition.
He specifically requested that Ontop issue a written apology within one week and retract all previously made defamatory statements. Failure to comply would result in legal actions against him.
Leonard referenced Section 39(1) of the 1999 constitution, which allows individuals the freedom of expression but cautions that such freedoms must not infringe upon another person's right to a good reputation, as per Section 45(1) of the same constitution.
In response to Leonard's petition, Ontop announced on his Instagram that he is ready to cooperate with any police inquiries and expressed his willingness to contest the matter in court.
Furthermore, he provocatively suggested that Leonard should direct his grievances elsewhere, rather than targeting him.
