The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has called on drivers and travelers using the Gwagwalada route in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to practice patience in light of the heavy traffic situation.
The congestion stems from ongoing construction activities and the removal of temporary steel barriers on the Gwagwalada Bridge.
Assistant Corps Marshal Felicia Kalu, the acting Corps Public Education Officer, made this statement in Abuja on Monday. She mentioned that the dismantling of the temporary steel structures has led to significant traffic build-up on this vital corridor.
Kalu urged drivers to remain composed and cooperate with FRSC personnel and other security agents present to help manage the traffic conditions.
"Motorists and travelers along the Gwagwalada route should be aware that the removal of the temporary steel fortifications on the bridge is the cause of the congestion. Road users must exhibit patience, stay calm, and work with the personnel handling traffic management," she stated.
Additionally, Kalu emphasized that adherence to traffic control instructions can considerably ease the gridlock and reduce the risk of accidents. She further warned motorists as the Sallah festivities draw near, which typically result in increased vehicular traffic along major highways.
"As the Sallah celebrations approach, it is vital for motorists to maintain proper lane discipline, avoid reckless overtaking, and approach construction zones with caution," she added.
Kalu also advised travelers to plan their trips effectively and drive responsibly to ensure their safety on the roads.
